WHEN SHOULD WE START THE DENTAL CARE?
Babies start to teethe at 5 to 6 months old and grow a complete set of teeth when they are 24-30 months old, including 20 primary teeth. By the age of 6, children begin to have permanent teeth and their milk teeth begin to be replaced during the ages of 6 to 13 years. The well-groomed baby teeth will form the good foundation for permanent teeth.
Just like adults, children need regular dental checkups. Examination and dental care in the clinic will help accurately monitor the development of the teeth and provide timely treatments. You should take your baby to the dentist at least every 6 months, do not wait until your baby has dental issue. Doctor also follows the eruption, detect dental abnormalities such as lack of teeth, lack of teeth space, missing teeth, soft-tissue abnormalities such as poor tongue sticking, jaw bone disorders such as narrow jaw… The doctor will perform the necessary interventions or precautions to help the permanent teeth grow correctly.
CARE FOR CHILDREN IN HOME
For very young children whose teeth can’t be brushed with toothbrush, the parents need to help their children clean their teeth with gauze wrapping on their index finger.
As children grow older, parents need to teach them to brush their teeth after each meal and before going to bed at night.
Parents should enforce good habits at home: limiting eating a lot of candy, chewing ice, sucking finger, biting on hard objects, toys because they will have bad affect to the development of teeth and jaw structure, etc. Therefore, parents should teach their children to practice healthy dental habits from a young age.
